We are celebrating love and friendship

Today we are celebrating Valentine’s Day and we want to use the opportunity to highlight the unique friendship, love and caring between volunteers, refugees and people in the camps.

By Maria Sagen Vodentsis and Vibeke Hoem

Since 2015 A Drop in the Ocean has coordinated more than 4500 volunteer aid workers from 60 different countries. Strong friendships and love between people are formed across cultures and regardless of gender, background, orientation, who you are and where you come from. We are all equal! Everyone is volunteering with the same intensions, to help and contribute to people that have lost everything. Nobody looks down on each other and you can feel the love from everyone. There is a lot of hugging, laughing and crying, especially when the time comes for goodbyes. And as Firas, from Syria said to two volunteers when they left : “We may not meet again, but we will always stay under the same stars”.
