Update from the refugee camp at Piraeus Port – Athens

UPDATE FROM OUR TEAM IN THE PORT OF PIREAUS, ATHENS:

Since the borders closed a couple of months ago the port of Pireaus has turned into an unofficial refugee camp. The port is now gradually being evacuated but it is a slow process. Buses take people to camps in the vicinity of Athens every week but there are still well over 3000 people living in tents and occupied passenger terminals along two of the gates. During the past two months our team has been distributing non-food items and tea as well as providing shelter and children’s activities to the communities stuck in limbo here.

A Drop in the Ocean took part in MiGR2016 – 1st International Conference on Migration Management, Athens April 18-19, 2016

On April 18-19, the conference MiGR2016 – Migration flows in Greece: The way ahead took place at the Divani Caravel Hotel in Athens, Greece.

A Drop in the Ocean was represented by 3 persons, and our Secretary general, Ms Trude Jacobsen was a guest speaker on the 2nd day of the conference.

The MiGR2016 Conference was organized by the European and Development Programs Division (EDPD).

Fredag 25. mars holdt Patrick, en av våre frivillige, et foredrag om avtalen mellom EU og Tyrkia. Han har jobbet for FN i Syria og er utdannet advokat med master i menneskerettigheter.
